Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life
Berthold Auerbach, "Edelweiss" (1861)
From his novel "Edelweiss" (published in 1861, Chapter 4).
Although frequently misattributed to the 20th-century playwright Bertolt Brecht, the quote originated with Auerbach as a reflection on the spiritual purification offered by music.
